Holographic Superconductors
A holographic model of superconductors based on the action proposed by
Benini, Herzog, and Yarom [arXiv:1006.0731] is studied. This model has a
charged spin two field in an AdS black hole spacetime. Working in the probe
limit, the normalizable solution of the spin two field in the bulk gives rise
to a superconducting order parameter at the boundary of the AdS. We
calculate the fermion spectral function in this\ superconducting background and
confirm the existence of fermi arcs for non-vanishing Majorana couplings. By
changing the relative strength of the and condensations, the
position and the size of the fermi arcs are changed. When , the
spectrum becomes isotropic and the spectral function is s-wave like. By
changing the fermion mass, the fermi momentum is changed. We also calculate the
conductivity for these holographic superconductors where time reversal
symmetry has been broken spontaneously. A non-vanishing Hall conductivity is
obtained even without an external magnetic field.Comment: 24 pages,17 figures, Add more discussions on hall conductivity, two

New small molecule inhibitors of histone methyl transferase DOT1L with a nitrile as a non-traditional replacement for heavy halogen atoms
A number of new nucleoside derivatives are disclosed as inhibitors of DOT1L activity. SARs established that DOT1L inhibition could be achieved through incorporation of polar groups and small heterocycles at the 5-position (5, 6, 12) or by the application of alternative nitrogenous bases (18). Based on these results, CN-SAH (19) was identified as a potent and selective inhibitor of DOT1L activity where the polar 5-nitrile group was shown by crystallography to bind in the hydrophobic pocket of DOT1L. In addition, we show that a polar nitrile group can be used as a non-traditional replacement for heavy halogen atoms
Cloning and expression analysis of two distinct HIF-alpha isoforms – gcHIF-1alpha and gcHIF-4alpha – from the hypoxia-tolerant grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idellus
BACKGROUND: Hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs) are involved in adaptive and survival responses to hypoxic stress in mammals. In fish, very little is known about the functions of HIFs. RESULTS: We have cloned and characterized two distinct HIF-alpha cDNAs – gcHIF-1alpha and gcHIF-4alpha – from the hypoxia-tolerant grass carp. The deduced gcHIF-1alpha protein is highly similar to the HIF-1alphas (57–68%) from various vertebrate species, while gcHIF-4alpha is a novel isoform, and shows an equivalent degree of amino acid identity (41–47%) to the HIF-1alpha, HIF-2alpha and HIF-3alpha proteins so far described. Parsimony analysis indicated that gcHIF-4alpha is most closely related to the HIF-3alpha proteins. Northern blot analysis showed that mRNA levels of gcHIF-1alpha and gcHIF-4alpha differ substantially under normoxic and hypoxic conditions, while Western blot studies demonstrated that the endogenous protein levels for both gcHIF-1alpha and gcHIF-4alpha are similarly responsive to hypoxia. Our findings suggest that both gcHIF-1alpha and gcHIF-4alpha are differentially regulated at the transcriptional and translational levels. HRE-luciferase reporter assays show that both proteins function as transcription activators and play distinct roles in modulating the hypoxic response in grass carp. CONCLUSION: There are at least two distinct HIF-alpha isoforms – gcHIF-1alpha and gcHIF-4alpha – in the hypoxia-tolerant grass carp, which are differentially expressed and regulated in different fish organs in response to hypoxic stress. Overall, the results suggest that unique molecular mechanisms operate through these two HIF-alpha isoforms, which underpin the hypoxic response in the hypoxia-tolerant grass carp

Electronic Properties of Boron and Nitrogen doped graphene: A first principles study
Effect of doping of graphene either by Boron (B), Nitrogen (N) or co-doped by
B and N is studied using density functional theory. Our extensive band
structure and density of states calculations indicate that upon doping by N
(electron doping), the Dirac point in the graphene band structure shifts below
the Fermi level and an energy gap appears at the high symmetric K-point. On the
other hand, by B (hole doping), the Dirac point shifts above the Fermi level
and a gap appears. Upon co-doping of graphene by B and N, the energy gap
between valence and conduction bands appears at Fermi level and the system
behaves as narrow gap semiconductor. Obtained results are found to be in well
agreement with available experimental findings.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, 1 table, submitted to J. Nanopart. Re
Simulation of Light Antinucleus-Nucleus Interactions
Creations of light anti-nuclei (anti-deuterium, anti-tritium, anti-He3 and
anti-He4) are observed by collaborations at the LHC and RHIC accelerators. Some
cosmic ray experiments are aimed to find the anti-nuclei in cosmic rays. To
support the experimental studies of the anti-nuclei a Monte Carlo simulation of
anti-nuclei interactions with matter is implemented in the Geant4 toolkit. The
implementation combines practically all known theoretical approaches to the
problem of antinucleon-nucleon interactions.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
Optimization of the design of ducted-fan hovering micro air vehicles using finite element simulation and orthogonal design
The structural design and flight stability characteristics of micro air vehicles have received much attention due to its low Reynolds number. Compared with fixed-wing aircraft, hovering ducted-fan micro air vehicles with vertical takeoff and landing and hovering capabilities have promising prospect. In this article, a flexible membrane and inflatable structure has been used as the aerodynamic shape of an aircraft model. Its advantages have been analyzed and verified by fluid-structure interaction based on finite element method. The flight stability of hovering micro air vehicles has also been investigated based on the theory of motion of structure. In order to improve the flight stability of the designed hovering micro air vehicle model, the effects of geometrical parameters and materials have been analyzed through an orthogonal experimental design. Based on the optimized results, the aircraft prototype has been manufactured for experimental test. The elastic deformation produced on its flexible membrane structure is obtained by stroboscopic stereo imaging method and a purpose-built experimental environment. The numerical simulation results indicated that the thickness of membrane and material of vertical duct have significant effects on the micro air vehicle flight stability and disturbance resistance ability. The results have confirmed that the flexible aerodynamic mechanisms produced by the aeroelastic deformation of spherical membrane can enhance the micro air vehicle stability. This work was financially supported by Support Program of National Ministry of Education of China

Is lymphovascular invasion a powerful predictor for biochemical recurrence in pT3 N0 prostate cancer?: Results from the K-CaP database
To assess the impact of lymphovascular invasion (LVI) on the risk of biochemical recurrence (BCR) in pT3 N0 prostate cancer, clinical data were extracted from 1,622 patients with pT3 N0 prostate cancer from the K-CaP database. Patients with neoadjuvant androgen deprivation therapy (n = 325) or insufficient pathologic or follow-up data (n = 87) were excluded. The primary endpoint was the oncologic importance of LVI, and the secondary endpoint was the hierarchical relationships for estimating BCR between the evaluated variables. LVI was noted in 260 patients (21.5%) and was significantly associated with other adverse clinicopathologic features. In the multivariate Cox regression analysis, LVI was significantly associated with an increased risk of BCR after adjusting for known prognostic factors. In the Bayesian belief network analysis, LVI and pathologic Gleason score were found to be first-degree associates of BCR, whereas prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level, seminal vesicle invasion, perineural invasion, and high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia were considered second-degree associates. In the random survival forest, pathologic Gleason score, LVI, and PSA level were three most important variables in determining BCR of patients with pT3 N0 prostate cancer. In conclusion, LVI is one of the most powerful adverse prognostic factors for BCR in patients with pT3 N0 prostate cancer.1132Ysciescopu
